Is there a way to create a SAN for a home Student Lab?

Hi I cant afford to buy SAN technology and I want to be able to test some strorage scenarios.

Is there way to simulate SAN storage for home labs?

There a several options to do this. Just setup OpenFiler, e-Open, Starwind or even HP/Lefthand P4000 VSA and configure it as shared storage in your (virtual) VMware hosts.

You can download a "HP/Lefthand P4000 VSA" virtual appliance for ESXi (http://www.hp.com/go/vsa). You will also get all the documentation on how it works there.

I would grab a NexentaStor Community Edition storage appliance and test with iSCSI and NFS. It can actually act as an FC target if you have budged to procure FC adapters.
