Is it possible to Extend datastore in esxi5.1

Dear Team,

I have one datastore size of 1TB and Production VMs are stored on the same.

Now we are planning to increase the same datastore to 1.5TB (Means need to add additional 500GB in existing datastore, instead of taking lun and create new datastore). If we inform storage team to extend existing lun from 1TB to 1.5 TB and they do the needful from their end and confirm to us then "Increase" buttong if I try to extend the same , will it impact running VMs if I extend without powering off a VM and will there be any data loss if storage and myself extend the datastore.

Need ur assistance on the same.

regards

Mr VMware

Hi MrVmware9423,

Yes it is possible to extend an existing lun without affecting the running VM's. For details please check the following

Increasing VMFS Datastore Capacity: Page 44: Storage Guide

Hope that answers your question.

Yes you can extend the datastore to 1.5TB on the fly, there should be no dataloss.
