Is Enterprise Licensing required for Dell Equallogic Multipath extension module?

hi there,

As the title suggests I'm struggling to get an answer on whether a vmware Enterprise License is required for Dell Equallogic Multipath extension module?

From what I've read it is to get access to the storage API but I've also seen an Essentials plus environment with the Equallogic MEM installed and apparently working (see attachment).

Can anyone help on this?

Cheers,

Huw

VAAI requires enterprise license if you want to use the HITKIT. The MEM plugin normally can be installed on all licenses and not enterprise only.

Hi Huw,

The EqualLogic MEM is dependent upon VMware's Storage APIs for Multipathing which is an Enterprise and Enterprise Plus feature. However, based on what you are seeing it does not appear that this is been enforced by VMware. Your continued use could be seen as a license volition by VMware, I can't comment on that. EqualLogic Support would not be impacted, but I would expect them to recommend that you use Round Robin.

Hi nielse,

The EqualLogic Host Intergration Toolkit for VMware 3.0/3.1, and recently replaced by EqualLogic Virtual Storage Manager v3.5 (gotta love branding Smiley Happy) is not dependent upon VAAI, though obviously if VAAI is present it will benifit some operations.
