Iomega NAS/SAN Performance

Hello, I’m looking at purchasing Iomega’s new product that’s about to be released which is their Iomega StorCenter ix12-300r 4TB Network Storage Array. Has anyone used their smaller NAS products with ESX like their Iomega StorCenter Pro ix4-200r NAS? If so how many VM’s and how’s the performance been?

I’ll be putting 10 VM’s on it, a mix of XP and 2003 and Exchange 2007 on this device using ESX… Any thoughts?

Please see attached... Thank you

i've heard good things. keep in mind that you will only get about 2.7TB of actual usable space because of the RAID level.

Ditto,

Lot of good reviews, but I would caution you on a high IOPS application like Exchange. As long as your user load is small and casual it will be OK.

We just bought the StorCenter ix12-300r 8TB with an extra 4-pack of 2TB disks, should arrive in a couple weeks. Our use for it is in our backup and DR strategy, no normally running VMs just when testing DR. I'll post again after it's hooked up and running, looking forward to getting this unit --

Read through Gabe's series of posts on performance testing his Iomega IX4-200D storage. The tests include both iSCSI and NFS configurations. He did a really nice job of putting the device through its paces and should give you some idea of how it will perform.
