IBM DS3400 Hardware Acceleration (VAAI)

Hi there,

I have been searching whether Hardware Acceleration (VAAI) is supported on IBM DS3400, it appear to be yes (VAAI-Block HW Assisted Locking, Full Copy, Block Zero) according to VMware's compatibility guide as follow:

VMware Compatibility Guide: Storage/SAN Search

But in our environment, all datastores are either showing "Unknown" or "Not supported". I understand that I have to set "1" for both options from "Datamover" on the Advanced Settings from the host.

However, am I still missing something here? Are there any settings that have to be done on the DS3400?

Thanks,

Grant

Hi Richardson,

I'm using version 07.35.53.00 which is the last batch of manufacture from 2011, by that time vSphere 4.1 had already came out and VAAI was already one of the function shipped with it.

Problem is I understand that many functions of the DS3400 were disabled from factory and  must be enabled manually by executing some scripts from the System Storage Manager. writeCacheEnabled; readCacheEnabled; mirrorcacheenabled; mirrorEnabled are few of the examples.

I'm just thinking if I have missed a particular script to enable VAAI.

Thanks,

Grant

Grant,

From your Storage Manager open up your Storage Subsystem Profile and then click on the Logical Drives tab.  In there you can see if you have those enabled.
