How to rename VM

I have a server that has become unstable (ServerA) I have created a new ServerB and will reconnect all HDs via 'Use an existing Disk. I then want to rename the old ServerA to ServerC and rename the new ServerB back to ServerA to keep our vm's matched up with the computer name. I don't think this is as simple as renaming the files, how do I clean up the DS image so only the "ServerA" naming will be throughout, (.vmx, .vdmk files etc)

Am I going about this the right way or is there a better option?

We can't use migrate storage or copy the data (3TB) across as we don't have the space.

Thanks in advance

Brendan

Could you migrate as thin provisioned disks, then migrate back as thick?

If you have no option of migrating to another datastore, then you have to do it manually. It isn't that difficult you just have to rename the vmdk files and the edit the vmx file to point to the new names. If you need a more detailed guide it is a pretty common issue and I am certain there is detailed guides, just need to google it. Smiley Happy
