How to configure shared storage for esxi servers hosted in vmwrks 7.1.3

Hello everyone ,

I have a small test lab on vmware workstation .

I would like to practice HA and DRS.

On of the requirements is a shared storage accessible to both esxi hosts.

Is that possible to configure on vmware workstation ?

Would like to get some ideas if you have any.

Many thanks to you all,

Udi

If you are running WS on Linux then it is simple to just use the native NFS server on linux to share some local storage. You can create an iSCSI or NFS VM and share storage that way on linux or Windows. I don't remember what os versions it supports but Microsoft has released the iSCSI target server that was only available as part of the Windows storage server. If supported you could add that and present local storage to the nested ESXi VMs

For VMs have a look at FreeNAS or Openfiler. Both available free of charge.

Hi Mate ,

Thanks for the info.

Just to clarify .

The wmware wks is loaded on windows 7 .

If I will install a redhat linux vm on the wmware workstation and create a NFS share , will the 2 esxi hosts see it afterwords ?

any steps that should be taken ?

Thanks

FYI, I deleted your duplicate thread in the ESXi forum.

You would need to add the NFS share as a datastore in the ESXi VMs. You mount the same share on both ESXi VMs.
