Format local storage with 8 MB prior to or while installing ESXi 4.1

I was wondering if it was possible to pre-format a local disk with 8MB blocks prior to or while installing ESXi 4.1 on to it.

Thanks in advance!

If you logically split the array you will be installing ESXi to then you can make the datastore as you wish after the fact. Create a 5GB virtual disk/virtual LUN and the balance as VD/ VL for the datastore using your array configuration utility and install ESXi to that.

Another option is to install ESXi to a USB flash disk (My choice).

For ESX you can use: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1012683

For ESXi, the better option is install on a SD or USB and add the datastore later.

Always good when things work although I don't know which part worked. Splitting the array or installing to USB.

If this is splitting the array it will also help if you add additional disks and expand the datastore in the future.

We used the array utility to create a second LUN. Thanks again.
