ESXi 5 not compatible with HP ML150 G6 with embedded soft RAID controller B110i

Hi All,

It seems to me that ESXi 5 is not compatible with HP ML150 G6 with embedded soft RAID controller B110i. VMWare install sees the SATA drives directly, instead of a Logical volume.

It wasn't compatible with ESXi 4 either, however, the server is now listed as fully supported on both vmware and hp sites. I tried both the HP custom vmware esx5i install and the regular.

This is the same problem as described here: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1342062

This time however, this server is listed as SUPPORTED with ESXi 5.

So what is going on? Should we buy servers and them give them back?

Anybody know a resolution to this issue?

Welcome to the Community,

unfortunately the only solution is to add the P410 SmartArray Controller to the system to have RAID functionality. With the "Entry Model" of the server, only the B110i is included. As only real hardware RAID controllers are supported by VMware, you will be limited to present the disks as separate, single disks to ESXi without the above mentioned P410 (which is included in the other models). If you are going to add this controller, make sure you select the model with the 512MB BBWC cache module to get a good disk performance!
