ESX 4.1 Cant Add SAN stroage.

hi all..

i have an ESX4.1 server here and i am having trouble adding Storage from the SAN. (SAS storage)

the ESX host can see the storage is there, it reads the correct Size 2,233 TB and 7TB luns..

I have herd the Limit is 2 Gb, is this correct ?

If yes they what is the recommended type of config just mkae more Virtual Disks...

When i go to add them  i get the following error

Call "HostDatastoreSystem.QueryVmfsDatastoreCreateOptions" for object "ha-datastoresystem" on ESX "esx1.Domain.local" failed.

Also be aware of block size when formatting the datastore.  Refer to the following KB article http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003565

The maximum size of a LUN that can be presented to ESX(i) is slightly less than 2 TB (2TB minus 512 bytes). Create smaller LUNs.

Does that apply to SAS storage as well, i though it was only iSCSI..I am assuming the same limitation applies for both ESX and ESXi...

I am in the process of Creating a smaller Lun for testing , Hope fully it works Smiley Happy

It doesn't matter whether it is iSCSI or Fibre Channel or local storage. ESX and ESXi are functionally equivalent

The only exception as far a datstore protocol is NFS which can be whatever size supported by the NFS server. Generally 16TB but higher is possible.
