Does anyone know if this is going to count as a Third party Multipath Extension and therfore require a licence upgrade to Enterprise + ?
Hello,
I can not say for sure, Dell could tell you for certain, but I believe that is the case, you will need the Multipath Plugin to use any multipath tool. So yes you will most likely need to upgrade to enterprise +

Edward, actually I think this is a VMware question, it is they after all who would decide what features go with what tiers
Paul, PM me, I'm interested in learning more about your interest in the Dell MEM.
Third Party Multipathing feature is available on Enterprise Plus edition only:

SAN Configuration Guide has more information on TPM:

Hello,
If Dell requires MPP to be available before its driver/tool can be used then it requires the purchase of an Enterprise Plus license. MPP is only available at that level. If Dell noes NOT require MPP, then well any level would work.

From watching the Dell Vsphere Web session, the presenter emphasised several times that their new multipath module would only work for certain versions of vSphere, and that one would have to ask their VMWare rep for clarification as to the licencing requirements.
I think its pretty safe to assume at this point that Enterprise Plus is required.

Just a clarification. The Dell module is a PSP that works with the ESX 40 default NMP. It is not a full MPP implementation.
you can just use software initiator in vsphere 4 for MPIO now. works pretty decent.
Dell's PSP will most definitely beat it cause it will contain an advanced load balancing algorythm compared to fixed/mru/rr.
It's just an PSP as described above not a MPP, a Plus license isn't needed as far as I know.

i would think so too. but we are now stuck with standard rr for now, at least it works. way better than old vi3 single path.
Yes most definitely beats 3.x in every way, the iSCSI software initiator has been really improved. not only more performance but also less overhead.

The Dell PSP is going into beta this month. Expect a production version when they're happy with it.

I don't know. Maybe someone from Dell can comment.
