Considerations when Implementing NFS and SAN together

What do I need to think about when implementing SAN and NFS datastores together in the same environment?  For example, considerations / issues with storage vMotion between NFS and SAN datastore,  profile-driven storage, storage DRS, storage replication and backup / recovery considerations,  storage performance monitoring across disparate storage systems, other considerations, gotchas, experiences you can share, etc.?

thanks - this is great info about choosing one protocol for the entire infrastructure.  I'm wondering what the caviats are of combining 2 protocols in the same infrastructure, having one cluster on NFS and another on FCOE?
