Both s/w and h/w iSCSI initiators on the same host.

Hi,

Can any one tell me if both software and hardware iSCSI initiators on the same host and looking at the same LUN is supported in ESX3.5U5, 4.0U2 and 4.1.

If not please give me the URL of any article from vmware stating the same.

Thanks,

P Mallya

The closest would be on page 28 of the 4.1 "iSCSI SAN Configuarion Guide"

http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r41/vsp_41_iscsi_san_cfg.pdf

Since the the ESX software initiator is definitely a dependent adapter, this could be considered to apply.

In spite of not being clearly stated, it has not been tested enough to be considered supported even though there are no known issues.

Out of blatant curiousity, what is the use case for this?

Hi cebomholt,

We need to do some testings on both H/W and S/W iSCSI, if I could have both setup on a single host I would be able to do parallel execution of tests with lesser hardware.

Thanks,

Hi,

There is a new KB for this now.

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1012279&sl...

Well the word is "Not Supported".

Thanks,

Mallya
