VMware vSphere SDK for Java in use?

Hello there. I'm just looking to start a java development against vSphere. Is the Java SDK the way to go? I am worried that there does not seem to be much activity here. Many thanks for your help,

Is it recommended to use vijava over the library from VMWare, given it's been so long since it was released? i mean, 2009 is a long time ago, and it doesn't specify if it works on the newer 5.0 esx servers.

it works on 5.0 vcenter & esx servers well.

and the last version is 5.1 beta for supporting vSphere 5.1
