vSphere replication upgrade steps from 6.0 to 6.5 update1

we're running running vSphere 6 on everything and replicate a few VMs between two vCenters in both directions.

looking over the doc at (it says 6.5 in the URL but dated 8/27/15?):

Order of Upgrading vSphere and vSphere Replication Components

i get that steps 1-3 apply to the protected side but what if both sides are the protected side?

will replications still function if we only perform steps 1-3 on one side and wait a few days to perform the same process (steps 4-6) on the other side?

thanks for any insight

When you say that both sides are protected do you mean that you are replicating VMs in both directions (bi-directional protection)?

aye, VMs are protected in both directions with a replication appliance in both locations.

*update*

looks like it's not going to work and i'll have to de-register the replication appliances

from 'Pre-upgrade check':

Warning

This vCenter Server has extensions registered that cannot be upgraded to or may not work with the new vCenter Server. Extensions: VR Management (by VMware, Inc.)

Resolution

Please ensure extensions are compatible with the new vCenter Server and re-register extensions with the new vCenter Server after upgrade. Please refer to the vSphere documentation on extensions, and the upgrade and interoperability guides.
