vReplication licensing question

Hi,

If I have a fully licensed ESXi 5.1 Enterprise Plus with a vCenter Standard and I configure a vReplication appliance to create a copy of a given VM, will I be able to place the destination replica on the storage belonging to a ESXi free edition or Essential edition? Or will both ends require at least Essential Plus licensing?

Thanks in advance,

Rasmus

Yes, Essentials Plus is the minimum edition that includes the vSphere Replication feature.

Just answered my own question: The destination storage has to be available in the vCenter. So I will at least need a destination edition that supports being added to the vCenter (standard).

But that raises another question:

In vReplication I can specify the destination to be a whole other vCenter. My question is this: Does vReplication support vCenter Foundation as a destination or does it HAVE to be a vCenter Standard?

Thanks in advance,

Rasmus

Hi,

In 5.1 vSphere Replication is tied to the host license edition. There are no requirements on vCenter Server license.
