we are using VDP for one of the sets of backups but being an appliance there is a challenge getting it offisite
so i was wondering if replicating the VDP appliance to offisite will work?
asking not so much to see if it is technically feasible because i expect it will work, but more asking because of what VDP is as an appliance.
i suppose it is just a matter of trying it but i thought i could get the opinion of others.
thanks
Hi,
Why you want to replicate VDP appliance, instead of replicating VMs itself to offsite ?

much less space and less time in replication
with vdp the volume is data is significantly reduced due to dedup and also represents the chosen number of retained backups.
vdp does not provide an easy way of getting the backups offsite without spending a significant amount of money to license for vdp advanced with builtin replication or an emc device to duplicate to.
I think it should work. It's still an OS with some VMDK's attached to it.
kind of my thinking, however since the backup is based on a snapshot i have the concern that the vdr appliance may get a bit weird about coming back from a snapshot.
