Windows failover cluster- vsphere replication

Hi,

Need help to replicate 2 node Microsoft cluster .  I know vSphere replication is compatible with virtual RDMs so will change physica RDMs to virtual, but the RDM SCSI controller of nodes have bus sharing (physical)  enabled. The  How do I replicate such clusters having SCSI bus sharing enabled, since vsphere replication does not support bus sharing

Thanks, waiting for some thoughts/work arounds

vSphere Replication does not support MSCS, see: VMware KB: vSphere Replication FAQ

Does vSphere Replication support MSCS clusters?

vSphere Replication does not work with virtual disks opened in "multi-writer mode". MSCS cluster virtual machines are configured with virtual disks opened in "multi-writer mode," so vSphere Replication will not work with a MSCS configuration.

Richard,

Thanks for replying. I am currently developing a proof of concept to replicate such MSCS  machines. I read that MSCS can work even with scsi sharing mode set to "none" (MS Clustering and SCSI bus sharing). Can you highlight what seetings needs to changed to get this config working. We have test machines and would like to explore all options/ workarounds to meet the DR requirement.

Thanks

The replicate MSCS VMs (because they use physical RDMs) you need array based replication.

gs_khalsa, thanks for your answer and apologies for late reply!

One question, Does Recover point for VMs support MSCS (shared rdm) replication ? What will the best software based solution for our requirement

Edit:

I don't know and I couldn't find out from their website. Their website reads:

  • Replicate VMs (VMDK and RDM) locally and remotely

My guess is they don't support physical RDMs (because of the nature of physical RDMs) but I could be wrong

Thanks for looking into it. MSCS clustered vms with shared physical bus sharing config is really painful to replicate / migrate over. Let me know if you have  any ideas. We are able to configure them with virtual RDMs up till now.
