Within the same error reference in the subject of this discussion thread I am prompted to Click OK to open the wizard. So I open the wizard and set up the replication parameters and all looks normal until I hit about 60% and then another error appears stating 'Configuring Virtual Machine for Replication... failed.' New Line 'The operation is not supported on the object.'
This is a VM running Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit that we are using for some Blade Logic testing. Can anyone point me to a list of Operating systems or applications that vSphere Replication does not support? I have as yet been unable to find any documentation of that nature for vSphere Replication.
I have attahed a word 2010 document with screenshots of the errors I get during the process.
Thanks!
Hi,
It might be one of these:
- VM is not using virtual hardware version 7 or later
- VM has a pass-through RDM disk
- VM is actually a VM template
Can you check and post here if the issue is resolved?

Martin
Martin,
Thanks for the quick reply.
I checked all of the things you suggested and they all checked out negative meaning that the condition you suggested does not exist.
Steve
What is the hardware version of the VM? I've typically seen that message when the VM is not at least version 7. Also look for attached ISO images on the CD/DVD device. That will cause a failure of the configuration, but I don't recall the exact error message.
The Hardware Version is 7 and the CD is set to Client Device and nothing is currently connected.
What would really be helpful is a guide that details those conditions that will prevent vSphere Replication from working.
Hi,
It would probably be fastest to have the issue resolved, if you file an SR and upload support bundles for vCenter Server, source host and VRMS at the source site.

Martin
