VSphere replication topology

Setting up a scenario with vsphere replication for two single hosts in two separate data centers I wonder if two vcenters appliances are needed to being able to perform the failover in the case of the source host went down.

Reading the documentation it appears that a configuration with one vcenter and one replication appliance is supported to replicate between two hosts in the same vcenter but I cannot understand how it would work the recovery in the case of the host running the vcenter and replication appliances broke down

thanks

Hi @scolombo ,

Replication within single vCenter server is supported. If vCenter is inaccessible, recovery will be manual.

1. Connect directly to ESXi host at recovery site --> Browse the target datastore and look for the VM folder that you want to recover

2. Find the .vmx file with recent time stamp. Select this vmx and register to ESXi host inventory

Hope that helps
