Retention instance and when it save RPO.

Suppose we have an RPO of 15 min, and the retention set at 12 per day for 2 days.

That means I have 12 slots a day, to save my last 12 most updated RPOs, right?

If so I would have saved the instances of my last 3 hours (every hour 4 instances because the RPO is 15 min), right?

But if I go to check, from the Replication tab, which instances it has saved I see that they are not the last 3 hours, but rather "more random".

So with what criteria does it save the instances?

Thanks everyone for the explanation

Hi

Please check out this article, it can be helpful

I can give you an example, if you set VR to keep 12 replication instances per day, the RPO period must not exceed 2 hours, so that vSphere Replication can create 12 instances in 24 hours.

Hi Ardaneh,

I had read that article, and I agree that the RPO should not exceed 2 hours to avoid the RPO Violation error.

Reading the article it seems that everything should follow some "mathematical" rules that allow you to understand which instances are saved, but in practice this is not the case.

This is the reason why I was asking for more info.

Thanks
