Resuming vSphere Replication after a planned site outage?

We had a planned site outage yesterday so our source and target sites were shutdown cleanly (we didn't pause replication first we simply shutdown the VRMs).

I'm struggling to find any documentation on what exactly will happen when I power the replication appliances back on?

My concern is that the "checksum" process of the initial replication looked to be very IOPS heavy (6000 or so just on a single VM when I looked) so I want to be sure what is going to happen here.

Does anyone know please?

The appliances are 5.8 and we're running vSphere 5.5 U2 on everything.
