Replication without vCenter

OK, got vSphere replication working fine and fail over works perfect.  My issue is, how can you "recover" a VM if vCenter is not available?  Is there some way to turn the target VM "on"/recover it if I can't log into vCenter?

Hi,

You need to manually create new VM without virtual disk and then use "use existing virtual disk" option to add  replicated virtual disk from DR site.

Hi,

Recovering without vCenter at the recovery site is currently not supported.

As Mohammed noted, you might try to attach the vmdks to a new VM or try to manually edit the replicated vmx and adjust disk paths (this is not officially supported, but might work). However, please take into account that there are base placeholder vmdks and additional redo log vmdks to achieve consistent image of the replicated vm. If pointed to the wrong vmdks, you might end up with a VM with inconsistent/broken file system.

Regards,

Martin
