Hi,
I am having a little trouble replicating a VM and was hoping someone knew of a solution.
We are trying to replicate a VM that is on a host that has it's own Direct Attached Storage to another host that has it's own Direct Attached Storage.
Everything we are running is v5.1.0 update 1, the host is running vsphere Enterprise.
I go through the following steps in the vSphere Web Client:
1. Select the vm and select Configure Replication
2. Select the Target Site
3. Select the Target Location
4. Select the Replication settings
5. Finish
Everything validates ok but when the replication starts I get:
Unable to create base virtual disk '[XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX2.vmdk' for primary virtual disk with key 2002.
Cause: Insufficient disk space on datastore
The Target Datastore is 6TB in size. The VM uses approximately 330Gb and is Thick provision with Lazy Zeroing.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate,
Many thanks,
Rob
Hi,
Could you check the free capacity of the target datastore?
Hi Rob,
Can you try to create disk at the target datastore of the needed size using vmkfstools with thick provisioning:
1. SSH or login at the target host console.
2. Type vmkfstools -c 330G -d zeroedthick /vmfs/volumes/<datastore name>/test_disk.vmdk
3. Check if the command from step 2 fails with "There is not enough space on the file system for the selected operation" or throws other error or succeeds.
4. Remove the test_disk.vmdk and test_disk-flat.vmdk if such were created.
Regards,
Martin
Hi Martin
Yes that worked fine. It created the file with no problems.
Hi Biliana,
The datastore has 6Tb of free space.
Could you provide more details on the number of disks of the VM that you are trying to replicate, whether they are RDMs? Also is the target datastore VMFS type? What version?. Thanks
Hi Bilianna,
The VM has 3 VMDK's (30Gb, 37Gb and 300Gb) no RDM's. The target datstore is a VMFS-5 datastore, version 5.8
Many regards,
Rob
I have created a smaller datastore, 1024Gb, and tried again. this time I get the message:
There is a storage issue with datastore path '[Test01]'.
Hi,
Please check hbrsrv.log at /varr/log/vmware/ at the VR appliance at the target site.
It will have details for the "storage issue with datastore path".
Regards,
Martin
Hi Martin,
There is quite a lot of detail in the file, is there something specific I should be looking for ?
Thanks
Rob
Hi,
Try to grep by the datastore uuid value (one linked at /vmfs/volumes/ at the target host).
Also you can limit the search by looking around the time at which the "storage issue with datastore path" message appears in /opt/vmware/hms/logs/hms.log.
Nice one... I'll try again in the morning so I can search for everything 11-08
Thanks for your help so far.
