Failed to Pair Between Two Site - vSphere Replication Problem

Hi All,

I'm quite new to VMWare technology, so I need some advices from you all guys.

Currently, I'm trying to setup vSphere Replication in my office between main DC and DRC, the purpose is for SRM using VR.

Now, I already installed VRA in every site, and I think the installation is already OK. Please check below SS:

1. VRA at DC site

VRA DC.JPG

2. VRA at DRC site

VRA DRC.JPG

The VRM service is running at every site.

The problem is when I want to pair from DC site to DRC, the purpose is failed. here is SS:

- From DC to DRC

Target Site DC.JPG

When i put the curson on 'unkown', it shows 'The connectivity status could not be determined'.

- From DRC to DC

Target Site DRC.JPG

The VRA on DC site not shown, it should be IP Address '172.16.104.188'.

These is what I done already:

- Synhronize timezone at vCenter Server, esxi host, and VRA.

- Restart vCenter Server at every site, and VR appliance.

- Trying to reconnect/disconnect between site, but always failed.

error alert when I want to reconnect from DC site:

Error alert when I want to reconnect from DRC site:

From case above, which part I should re-check and reconfigure again? I already spending hours during these 2 days to fix this problem but nothing progress till this time.

Please share your experience here to fix this issue.

Best Regards,

Azlan Syah

Do you definitely have the required network ports open between the sites?

For starters, Replication on site A should be able to reach vCenter / PSC on site B over port 80.

Any Firewall or IPS between the two sites?

Have also seen similar issues due to name resolution problems. From the command line of Replication - are you able to ping the remote VC using FQDN?

If not, you could try fixing in DNS, or by using the hosts file on the Replication appliance:

echo "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx vcenter_FQDN.domain.local vcenter_FQDN" >>/etc/hosts

Hi P_Hall,

Thanks for respond to my question.

- Yes correct, we use port 80 for vCenter server (default port). I'm sure, it is open.

- No firewall between two sites

- We can ping from site A vCenter Server to site B vCenter using FQDN.

Ping to DRC.JPG

- We also can ping from site B vCenter server to site A vCenter Server using FQDN.

Hi Azlan,

You mention those pings were from vCenter to vCenter. Was that accurate? Just to confirm again, the recommended check was from vsphere replication on site A to vCenter Server on site B.

One other question - is it the same version of vSphere Replication at each site? If not, it needs to be.

Hi p_hall,

Sorry, i should revise my statement above:

- It is ping from vSphere replication appliance site A to vCenter server site B

- It is ping from vSphere replication appliance site B to vCenter Server site A

Both VRA using this version:

That's all I can really think of for now. I would recommend checking some logs at the precise time that the pairing fails, and you may see helpful logging - a good place to start would be the hms.log in each Replication appliance and the web client virgo log from the Web Client where you are attempting the pair operation.
