Am just testing out VSphere Replication 5. with a couple of test VMs
The replication process is working just fine
What I'd like to know is the process for recovering a replicated VM to New Hardware in the case of complete failure of the original host and/or datastore
In essence, Disaster Recovery.
Are there other (software) pieces I require to take the replicated VMDK and associated files to re-create a new VM on a new host
Steve
Yes, since it will have all your .vmdk and .vmx files.
Only with vSphere Replication you can recovery a virtual machine in case of a disaster, but of course you should replicate this virtual machine to a completely datastore (it can be even a local datastore) and have spare host to protect you in case of host hardware failure. Anyway way, a better way to orchestrate your DR is using the vCenter Site Recovery Manager, see: VMware Site Recovery Manager: IT Disaster Recovery Software | United States
After seeding the VMs to a new DataStore, the iSCSI Datastore was moved to a remote site where it replicates over a WAN
I guess my question is : Is there enough information in the replicated VM folder to re-create the VM (ie - including memory, cpu, passthrough, etc)
Steve
Yes, since it will have all your .vmdk and .vmx files.
