Can vSphere replication work without SRM ???

Hi All,

I have a very basic doubt. Can vSphere replication work without having to buy SRM License ?? For instance can i run scripts using PoweCLI to make replicas or VM and move them to a remote site without having to purchase SRM or replication appliance ?? If so can you provide me with the required resources to find the required stuff ??? Thank You. Plz Advise.

Regards,

BKC

VSphere Replication can exist without SRM.

You don't get the automated recovery plans, protection groups etc.

You need to have Essentials Plus or higher licensing.

Documentation:

vSphere 5.5 Documentation Center

Edit:  I've done it for a few smaller clients now where their DR site is basically just an ESX host (within the cluster) that we replicate the VMs to.

You basically:

-install your cluster,

-add your hosts as normal,

-deploy the replication appliance at Prod and DR,

-link the appliances into Vsphere Server,

-link the appliances,

-set up your replication as per the doco,

Thank You.

The Appliance your talking about is VDP (vSphere data protection) right ??? If there are others which do back up and recovery please let me know...

There's a separate vSphere Replication Appliance that you can download from the VMware downloads. It's included with Essentials Plus and better.
