VMControl error -3

Got the following error while trying to power on a vm using vmware-cmd

Could not connect to VM /vmfs/volumes/xxx/yyy.vmx

(VMControl error -3: Invalid arguments: Failed to connect or login with server.)

What could be the issue?

Some questions

Are you trying to issue a vmware-cmd remotely (then it's probably a firewall-issue)?

Which user a you using while issuing the command?

What is the complete command you're typing?

This was happening because mgmt-vmware hostd wasn't up.

I was trying to power on vm using vmware-cmd <cfg> start
