Transferring generated vmx files

Is the an easy way to transfer vmx files generated on demand from a database of VM profiles, etc. from the client to the server. I know I can use scp, but dealing with authentication is a hassle. Using ssh-keygen to avoid having to deal with username and passwd in a secure manner permanently grants the client too much access to the server.

It would be nice if there were a way to transfer the file use a saved session.

I hope the credentials in the saved session are securely encrypted.
