Totally confused about what API, SDK, Vmware VIX API, VI Perl API.

Ok, I give up.

I am totally confused about what API, SDK, Vmware VIX API, VI Perl API.

VMware-server-linux-client-1.0.4-56528

which contains

(VMware-vix-1.0.4-56528.tar)

(VMware-VmPerlAPI-1.0.4-56528.tar)

Or

VMware-vix-1.1.2-59824.i386.tar

Or

VMware-VmPerlAPI-2.3.2-39850.tar

I want to remotely control VM Servers using Perl. Can someone give me a pointer on what I should select?

Thanks!!:0

I dont think you have listed what your looking for :smileyshocked:, try the VI Perl Toolkit, which is the first option here , you get installers or appliances, and source.

From what I understood I thought the VI Perl tool kit was for the Virtual Infrastructure, Virtual Center or ESX Server. I'm using the Vmware Server 1.x (Free version)

Hi

My apologies, I reaf 'VM Servers' as being 'Server OSs in Virtual Machine' and assumed ESX. I think what you are looking for is VMware-VmPerlAPI-2.3.2-39850.exe, it is described thus ...

'An Exe file that includes all VmPerl for Windows software components; For developers using Perl on a Windows client machine to access ESX Server 3.x, ESX Server 2.x, or VMware Server. '

Power on, power off, get state, change config etc.

Hope we have it right now.

Cheers, Andy.
