Is it possible to reconfigure a VM dynamically?

Hi,

Can we reconfigure a VM dynamically? Suppose the VM has reached 90% of its capacity(CPU/Memory), can I increase the resources dynamically by allocating more resources (say, add another 100MB of memory when VM has used up 90% of existing memory) without shutting down the VM or disrupting current services running in VM?

Thanks in advance,

Umi

Yes, it's the esx-version I'm talking about.

Hi,

with 3.0.x you can't do that. Actually you can trick a vm to get more ressources, like more ram or an additional cpu with the sdk, but the VM won't use these ressources until after the next reboot.

Thank you very much Mr. Stefan,

When you said with 3.0.x, did you mean ESX server version? I'm using ESX Server v3.0.2 and Virtual Center Server v2.0.2

Thanks,

Umi
