Getting Started

Where is the documentation?

I NEED to run the VI-Perl-Toolkit on a linux box.

There is other code running on that box that I need to integrate with

the VI-Perl stuff.

All I see to down load is a Windows executable.

And an appliance that runs in it's own VM.

Really don't want to mess with Windows.

Gotta go find the incantation for installing an appliance on ESX server.

Tried to install VMperl. It does all I need. But it's been branded "Legacy",

the installer failed, and I don't know if it's worth the effort to solve the

problem, to get into a dieing platform.

Currently, to install the Linux version of the VI Perl Toolkit requires you to obtain the download file from Sourceforge:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/viperltoolkit/

Here are some pointers to documentation for manually installing the VI Perl Toolkit on a Linux box using the package from sourceforge:

VI Perl Toolkit Installation Guide:

http://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/beta/viperltoolkit/doc/perl_toolkit_install_idx.html

Manual installation instructions:

http://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/beta/viperltoolkit/doc/perl_toolkit_install.html#installing

Linux specific:

I downloaded :

VMware-VI-Perl-Toolkit-e.x.p-47985.exe

VMware-VI-Perl-Toolkit-Appliance-beta-1.200705311156-00000.zip

from vmware.com

As starting points are these better, worse, or the same as the sourceforge downloads?

These files are different than the sourceforge content; the files you list are for the Windows installer and the Appliance. The sourceforge content includes source files, which are \*not* included in the files you've listed. Please read the Installation Guide, which includes instructions for downloading from sourceforge and building the Perl modules for Linux.
