Can the virtual machines view the HBA attached to ESX server

Can we enable the FC HBA (which is actually inserted in ESX server) for all the guest Operating systems installed on an ESX server.

If yes, can we get a unique WWN for each of the guest operating systems.

Thanks.....

FCP HBA inserted in esx server are virtualized by lsi logic or bus logic controllers in guest os. one gues os can have maximum 4 lsi controllers.

So there is not as such uniqe wwpn no of hba for each guest os. You can get the HBA information from any VM using sdk apis.

Hi

For sure you cannot see the FC controller in the guest OS, BUT you could possibly create a unique WWPN for a vm IF;

Your HBA (hardware, firmware and driver), FC Switch (hardware and firmware) and Fabric OS all support NPIV -AND- you are using ESX 3.5 -AND- the disk in question is a Raw Device Mapping.

I'm not sure how you do it programatically, I'm just answering the 'can it be done' question.

Cheers, Andy.
