When trying to configure vMA for the first time I enter pretty long passwords, for example (VMw@53de or T5s1ng#3) but Unix keeps on saying the passwords are too simple!! passwd= Authentication token manipulation error
OMG, what sort of passwords vMA accepts? Sure I'm doing smthng wrong but can't figure out what could it be
Any help would be appreciated
As per release notes (http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/vima/vma51/vma_51_relnotes.html) the password complexity requirements for vMA 5.1 are:
The password must have at least:
When setting it up for first time, I also spent some good 10-15 minutes trying to figure out a passwd that would be complex enough for that picky thing. And of course came up with something that I forgot instantly
Ask google on this and you'll be provided with multiple ways on how to change the vi-admin pass later on to something more human friendly. However if you do so, make sure you account for the risks and security issues, especially if that's your prod environment.
p.s. vMA 5.0 required the same things, except that it would allow 8 characters.
hope this helps

You were very right!
A 'proper' complex 9 characters password took it
Thank you for a ll your help!
Worked for me as well with the 9 character password !
Thanks !
Yeah, except that vSphere Management Assistant is retarded about this, and apparently changes some special tokens to backslahes (tokens it won't show, of course), and then locks out your vi-admin account for four wrong retries. So, it's a toss-up which tokens it will accept (and not moronically substitute) and which not.
That's not that simple when you have a keyboard layout different from the default one...
