I would like to determine which features are not available with esxi hypervisor when compared with vSphere Standard license? What would be the reason to purchase a license when i am currently happy with the free Hypervisor?
Any help on this appreciated as I could not find any missing features other than support and VC Server Mgmt.
Thanks
This page has the kit breakdowns with what each one brings to the table: http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere/buy/small_business_editions_comparison.html
So does this page (in the store): http://www.vmware.com/vmwarestore/vsphere_purchaseoptions.html
As soon as you want to use any of the better features, such as managing one, or more, hosts with vCenter Server, you have to purchase a license. You also don't get any of the really good features like vMotion, Update Manager, HA, DR, etc...
The way I see it, if this is for a company setting, purchase the appropriate license, with SnS and vCenter Server... For home test labs, often the free release is all you can afford/get... Just keep in mind, it limits what you can test in that setting...

You are also capped at 4 vCPUs

Hi, is that 4 vCPUs per server or per processor core?
Per VM... If you want to be able to assign up to 8 vCPU's per VM, you cannot use the free hypervisor...
