We are using vmware sphere hypervisor 4.1 on a machine with two NIC cards, all VM network traffic for remote login and the VM's network connections go through one NIC card. The other NIC connects to the machine used to managing the VMs.
We have a number of VMs running Vista-32 and Windows7-64, two active Vista and one active Windows 7. The issue is that even with only the one Win7 VM in active use it cannot achieve more than 150-170 kB/s when copying files to/from network shares. I am refering to the speed listed on a typical windows file copy progress dialog. 1 GB file copy takes 2 hours.
The VMs themselves perform quite well for logging in and installing software which is their intended purpose as testbed machines. I am looking for a few general hints as to what to check to resolve the slow network performance issue.
