Migrating VM fro one Datastore to another datastore take time.

Hi Friend ,

I am using VMWARE 5.5 and  migrating VM machine from one data store to another data store because of space issue but its take at least 1 hour to migrate 600 MB machine, I have checked by migrating  couple of machine to different data store but getting same issue.

Please advise.

How exactly do you migrate the VM?

Are the datastores backed by a cache controller, i.e. does it support write-back operation, or does it work in write-trough mode?

Hi,

We have migrating machine by login in to Vcenter server, Select VM-Migrate-Select data store-Change data store-Select data store where we want to migrate machine and finish.

In this case it looks like a storage throughput issue.

ESXi itself doesn't cache data, and relies on the controller capabilities. If the controller doesn't provide write-back capabilities, throughput can be really slow (only a few MB/s). I assume that you meant 600GB rather than 600MB. In this case 1 hour (or more) is not unusual.
