HomeLAB Ryzen

Hi Guys

I would like to configure my new Homelab with ESXi 7.0 Free license again.

My Homelab

R7 2700x

64GB Ram

1x 500GB SSD Samsung NVMe

4x 6TB WD Reds

GTX 1060

At this moment without Raid Controller

My main Question is, the R7 has 8 Cores and 16 Threads, i would like to give at one VM all 16 Threads with the Free license of ESXi, is that possible? Or will i run in a license problem?

I think passtrought the GTX shouldnt be a Problem?

Thank you for reply.

Best Regards

Hey, hope you are doing fine.

Just a few things to point out:

- Ryzen is a consumer CPU architecture whereas ESXi is an enterprise product, it will work but it is not supported. Please don't run any production services in this lab. You might find some PSODs eventually.
- If you are using a consumer MOBO you might find that the NICs are not recognized by ESXi installation media, you might need to install them manually.
- If you will use ESXI trial license you have no limitations (other than time). If you use VMware hypervisor  (free) you can only add 8vCPU https://www.snel.com/support/vmware-vsphere-6x-free-and-paid-editions/#:~:text=Only%202%20physical%2...

Hope that works
