hey folks
i am a bit confused as to my versions?
I have hosts running
ESXi 4.0.0 360236
ESXi 4.1.0 348481
now i am confused as to which is the latest version?
i presume 4.1.0 but the build number sugguests otherwise
can someone clarify?
i have also tried to upgrade the v4.0.0 to 4.1 and any packages i have downloaded to try have been unsuccessful
basically the reason i ask is that the servers running 4.1.0 allow me to manage disk IOPS where as v 4.0.0 dont.
i dont have vCenter they are all standalone hosts.
thanks for your help
Mick
ESXi 4.1 is the lastest of the two. It corresponds to 4.1U1 which is the latest released build.
cool.
so can i upgrade from the version of 4.0.0 that im on to 4.1.0??
none of the upgrade packages seem to work for me
To upgrade the hosts from ESXi 4.0 to 4.1 you need the "ESXi 4.1 Update 1 (upgrade ZIP from ESXi 4.0)" package from http://downloads.vmware.com/d/details/hypervisor_esxi41u1/ZCV0YnRkKipiZColcA==
To update stand alone hosts, you have to use the "vihostupdate" utility.
Before running the upgrade, make sure your hosts (as well as the BIOS version) support ESXi 4.1

Yeah you will be able to update from ESXi 4 to 4.1. Make sure you have backups of your VMs, etc.
You need to get the update files from vmware.com
Check out these links for more info on how to do the updates:

http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/esx_3i_rcli/vihostupdate.php
yeah i have the upgrade package but a get an error saying failed to read the upgrade package metadata
any ideas?
Are you using vihostupdate.pl ?
Can you post the command you are using and the filename for the upgrade bundle?
i am using the esxi 4.0 upgrade wizard
package is called upgrade-from-esx4.0-to-4.1-update1-348481.zip
You need to use vihostupdate. The host utility won't work for 4.1:

Check out the above links on how to use vihostupdate.pl
And this is the correct file for upgrading:
