Datastore Full - Help!

I tried to delete all snapshots but there was not enough room in the datastore.

I have many .vndk files but I am not sure if they are dependant on each other

Centos-000001.vmdk

Centos-000002.vmdk

Centos-000003.vmdk

Centos-000004.vmdk

Centos-000005.vmdk

Centos-000006.vmdk

They are all about as large as I would expect the whole vm to be but I daren't delete any of them

Move some of the VMs to another datastore.

you have to perform storage VMotion where the VM will move to another free datastore with the configuration file.

in this way you have a free space in the existing datastore.

Yes do not delete them as they do depend on each other - fillips indicated move other VMs off or you will have to add an extent to the datastore to provide more room -

The snapshot files may show the provisioned disk size rather than their current files size on the disk, depending on where you check the file sizes. The Datastore Browser in the vSphere Client will show you both sizes.

Regarding the issue: To see whether the issue can be solved easily please provide some details:

  • Which version and build of ESXi do you use?
  • How much free disk space do you have on the datastore?
  • What are the VM's current file sizes? A screenshot of the datatore browser with all details (names, sizes, time stamps) would be ok.
