Probably a simple question but I can't seem to find a clear answer. I have a Vsphere 4.1 environment with Vcenter and I recently had to load the free ESXi on a standalone machine just to run 2 VMs on one server. I was wondering if the free license allows management with an existing licensed Vcenter server.
Thanks.
No, the license needed to connect to vCenter server is only included in the "paid" versions.

Hi,
From here http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere-hypervisor/faq.html
- How do I use VMware vCenter Server to manage my VMware vSphere Hypervisor hosts?
VMware vCenter Server provides centralized management for VMware vSphere Hypervisor hosts and their virtual machines. To manage a VMware vSphere Hypervisor host with vCenter Server, you must have a vCenter Server Agent license, which is included in all paid editions of VMware vSphere.
Thanks guys. I'll have to see how annoying it is to manage these seperately and wiegh that against a license, I suppose.
