WMware Tools installation stuck hanging on Win 2012 Std Host

Would appreciate any solutions to the following:

Attempted to install VMware Tools on Windows 2012 Std server from vSphere Client 5.5.

It seems be hanging and never completes.

Does it need access to the internet? I connected the server to the internet and it still hangs.

VM is running as required.

Hi,

Pls ensure if you are following below steps to install vmware tools.

  1. Ensure that your Windows virtual machine is powered on.
  2. Log in to the virtual machine as a user with Administrative privileges.
  3. When the desktop is loaded, click VM in the virtual machine menu, then click Guest > Install/Upgrade VMware Tools and click OK.
  4. Navigate to CD in the Windows Explorer and double-click setup.exe or setup64.exe to begin the wizard.
  5. Follow the prompts in the wizard to complete the VMware Tools installation. Choose the Typical installation option.
  6. When the VMware Tools installation has finished, restart the virtual machine for the changes to take effect.

Thank you. I did not complete the steps to run the setup64 program using the .iso or DVD after logging into the server.

After I started the set64 program, the Setup VMware Tools application came up and went thru the options, Finished and

restarted the server. The VMware Tools was installed.
