Too big OVA/OVF files

Hi,

I have created OVA-File / OVF-files using

  • vSphere Client Version 6.0.0 (Build 2502222)
  • ovftool.exe (windows command tool)

I have zero’ed the non-used space with a shell script before [as I'm using Thick Provisioning instead of Thin Provisioning] , in order to have good compression of the non-used space.

However, in any case the resulting OVA and OVF files are always too big compared to the files that occupy used space on the filesystem.

Used space is around 3.5GB Smiley Happy, whereupon size of the generated OVA/OVF file is around 5.6GB :smileyangry:.

However, the OVA/OVF files are working fine. If I deploy the generated OVA/OVF file, then the used space shows again around 3.5GB

It seems to me, that some not important stuff is also included in the OVA/OVF files. What is it exactly?

How can I reduce the size of the generated OVA/OVF files, in order to have the OVA/OVF file size around 4.5GB. Or is/should even less possible?
