I am using vSphere 4.1, 5.5 and 6.5.
For automatic shutdown on power fail (UPS) i am using ssh and a short script on the vmware host for controlled shutdown.
I had working skripts (using expect and ssh with public key authentication) for shutting down 4.1 and 5.5 installations of vSphere.
This skripts failed on the current 6.5 Version of vSphere (6.5.0 (Build 4887370)).
The issue was that the skript started correctly with nohup as background task.
The job was shown as correct working with "jobs -l" command.
When exiting the ssh session - the background job was killed!!!
This behaves the same also when manually entering the commands.
After long search i found out that the combination of openssh client and 6.5 Version of vSphere causes the issue.
After switching to another ssh client (putty on linux) everything is working fine.
