vRO 7.3 Authentication mode against vCenter 5.5?

Hi, I just stood up a brand new instance of vRO 7.3 appliance, and looking to attach it to our existing vCenter 5.5 (build 366016) environment. The idea is to migrate packages from our existing vCO 5.5.3 to this new instance of vRO 7.3, then start the ball rolling on getting our vCenter environments moved to 6.5.

From the product interoperability matrix, it seems that vRO 7.3 should easily support vCenter 5.5:

VMware Product Interoperability Matrices

But when I access the vRO 7.3 Control Center, and try to point it at my vSphere instance, it just throws an error of:

Error! An error occurred while retrieving the Single Sign-On token from: https://VCENTERHOSTNAME/lookupservice/sdk

I did some research, and saw some references to some kind of legacy authentication, but the vRO 7.3 appliance only shows me either vRealize Automation or vSphere for the Authentication mode. What gives here?

Hi,

According to vRO 7.3 documentation - https://docs.vmware.com/en/vRealize-Orchestrator/7.3/com.vmware.vrealize.orchestrator-install-config... - you can configure vSphere Authentication mode by using vCenter Single Sign-On with vCenter 6.0 and later.

Interoperability matrix is a slightly different thing; I think what it shows is which vCenter versions you can register in vRO as endpoints (using the out-of-the-box workflow 'Add a vCenter Server instance'), thus allowing connections to the running vCenter instances and managing/orchestrating the available vSphere inventory objects.

Thanks for digging into the docs and finding clarification iiliev! I think the matrix should show a :smileyinfo: for anything earlier than vCenter 6.0 regarding SSO authentication, so people like me aren't banging their head about this.

I poked around all the Orchestrator 7.x documentation, and it looks like 7.3 removed the legacy SSO and LDAP, while 7.0, 7.1, and 7.2 still have them.
