vCD Notification Admin Customization Config

I have installed vCenter Orchestrator 5.1 with the following plug-ins successfully

  • Perspective 2.0.1
  • Active Directory 1.0.1
  • HTT-REST 1.0.0
  • vCloud Director 5.1
  • vCenter Server 5.1.0

When I login to the perspectives web portal vCD Notification Admin Customization Configuration.

which user should I use for the vCD Plugin User?

I might be missing the syntax, tried domain\administrator, administrator all in vain (The vCD Plugin User is the vCloud User account used by vCO Plugin (Should be SYSTEM administrator)\n\n)

Thanks fr any help. there in not much information on vCenter 5.1 Orchestration and Plug-ins.

This comes down to how you have things installed and which authentication mechanism you are using:

1) Appliance with built-in LDAP: login as vcoadmin with password of vcoadmin

2) Appliance or Windows version with LDAP: login using format of: username of a member of the group you specified as vCenter Orchestrator admins

3) Appliance or Windows with vCenter SSO: login using format of: username@domain.com of a member of the group you specified as vCenter Orchestrator admins in the SSO config

I have tried all those with no luck.  Am using orchestration appliance configured for ldap which is working fine

The vCD Plugin User will not connect at all, tried vcoadmin, the domain administrator account...still not connecting

The account MUST be a member of the vco admins group you specified... even a domain admin will not work if it is not in the vco admins group.

I am a bit confused since you mention log in perpectives and vCD plug-in user.

To make things easy to start with the vCD plug-in should be using shared session and the user should be either the vCD system admin when using the "system" organization or one of the administrator of a given organization when specifiying it in the organization field.

If you use ldap the user who logs in the perpective must be a member of the vcoAdmin group. If you use shared session for vCD then this user will be able to access all your vcloud infrastructure (if you used system) or only a fiven organization (if you specified one).

Thanks for all the updates,

Since perspectives is only used for demo and not supported by VMware, Can I by-pass it and still get the notifications? If so, what changes do I need to do on Orchestrator?

I really need email notification, so I followed the link below

http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-20446

These are the instructions to have the sample workflows working

  • Pre-requisite :
    • vCO installed and configured
    • AMQP plug-in installed
    • vCloud Director 5.1 vCO plug-in installed and configured using the System org
    • Microsoft AD vCO plug-in installed and configured
    • Perspective plug-in installed - is this a must ?
    • Mail plug-in configured
    • AMQP server freshly installed (if you messed up with AMQP before chances are something will be set wrong)

Thank you

All of the workflows in the perspectives package are available in Orchestrator once you load that package.  You do not have to use the web view.

If you browse your workflows there is one for create a vCD notification subscription.

You can just run that from Orchestrator.

You shuold be able to look at the packeges view and see the workflows that come with that specific package.

I'm still working on navigation in the new GUI.  You should also be able to search for workflows for something like "subscription".

Hi,

One of the things might be to look at where your vCO admins group is located in your AD infrastructure. The vCO admin group has to be visable in the OU you have specified under the "group lookup base" section under authentication.

I had the issue above when trying to get some of the plugins to work correctly, vCO is happy with the configuration but cant authenticate correctly.

Hpe this helps
