Howdy all,
I've been looking that the web views and what they might offer us and so I'm wondering if there is a way to integrate them with an existing SSO solution that we already have. So far I've found nothing about it anywhere.
Thanks!
Hello,
If I understand your question right, you want to substitute the default webview login with some login against your existing SSO solution.
But your login to the webview is actually your login to vCO, that manages your access to the vCO objects (workflows, actions, etc.)
So the problem is if you can make vCO use an external SSO service for authentication. And the answer is no, you can't do that.
At the moment you can only login against the supported LDAP services (Active Directory, eDirectory, Sun Java System Directory, if I remember well).
That's too bad.
Hi colinj,
Same problems with my customers.
I'm actually following wavemaker - new in product line.
For me this is a good solution (SSO, multi LDAP, quick to use, SOAP, DB, ...) while there is no clear fututre solution for WevView.
Take a look and decide. Maybe some others here have a hint.
Regards, Andreas
It may be possible to invent some way to workaround (I don't like the word "hack") the login process, but it is not really recommended to do so.
Just curious, what kind of SSO solution are you talking about? Something standard, or a custom implementation?
We use cosign (http://cosign.sourceforge.net/) which was developed here at the Univ. of Michigan. It has filters that work with Apache, IIS, JBoss and Tomcat.
*bump*
So I'm wondering if there are any changes in the availability of SSO for Orchestrator. Since we already have an SSO solution for campus I'd like to integrate that in to the Web Views of Orchestrator.
So, any movement on this?
Here's another bump for this.
With the advent of vSphere 5 and the Orchestrator appliance I'm wondering if anything has been done with tying the web view login in to an existing SSO. Anyone? Bueller?
Not yet. The appliance is a regular vCO 4.2 + security fixes.
Christophe.
Although Web Views are still supported in vCO 4.2, it's an area of the product where we'll stop investing. We're recommending that you consider WaveMaker instead as it offers a simpler and more flexible way to build IT Operations portals and it integrates with SSO systems. If you are looking for an end-user Self-Service portal, you should also look at VMware Service Manager for Cloud Provisioning.
Are there any Wavemaker tutorials with Orchestrator yet? I have searched for them but haven't found much at present.
You opened the competition :smileysilly::smileylaugh:: I know some people (including me) have it on their TODO-List, but right now there is nothing published yet.
To get started: Watch this video www.wavemaker.com/screencasts/soapdemo/soapdemo.mp4 , to call the SOAP-API of vCO. The Docu about this: http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vcenter-orchestrator-42-develop-web-se...
Some additional examples (unfortunately not for Wavemaker specific, but you should get the idea): http://www.vcoportal.de/category/integrate-vco/external-workflow-calls/
Best regards, and stay tuned!
Joerg

Well, here we go for a quick "get-started" video: http://www.vcoportal.de/2011/11/using-wavemaker-as-web-frontend-for-vco/
...surely more to come in the future...
