VIX Plugin

Is there an updated version of VIX Plugin for vCenter Orchestrator that supports vSphere 5.  The old plugin (1.10) doesn't work with vSphere 5 and return "unable to create object Vixserver:Null"

I am trying to run a script in linux, any other scripts or suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

I suppose you could incorporate vmrun into a workflow using the command object... you'll have to enable vCO to run local programs.. but, as mentioned in my first reply here, the functionality originally provided by the VIX plug-in is now a core piece of the vCenter 5 API and this link: http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-19918 has sample workflows to get you started using that api. Such example workflows for Guest Operations will be included in future releases of our core library workflows.

No, there is not and there will not be. Instead, you should be using the vCenter 5 plug-in and the Guest Operations API calls. There have been a number of discussions on this topic in the communities here and I think there is even a sample package on the "Documents" tab to help you get started.

That’s bad news. I liked the plugin a lot. We upgraded our VC to 5.0 U1 2 weeks back and since then having issues.

Can I include vmrun into workflow using scripting.

Thanks and Regards

I downloaded the package, added the package to orchestrator.  When I try to run the "Run program in guest" workflow, I get the following message.

Please note that vCO is NOT installed as the same server as vCenter.

This is how my vCO server log reads

[https://<vcenter server./sdk#7xxxx].startprograminguest -> Notsupported.  The operation is not supported on the object.

The operation is not supported on the object. (Dynamic Script module name:startprograminguest#58)  (Dynamic Script module name:startprograminguest#60)

As my vCO and vCenter are in different servers, should I enable something on the vCO that will successfully talk to vcenter sdk.

It sounds like you're not using the vCenter 5 plug-in with your vCO server...

vCenter 5.0.1.192 is the default plugin that comes with Orchestrator 4.2.1 build 555 and am using the same.

Interestingly, when I run the same workflow in POC environment which has vCenter and Orchestrator in the same machine, it runs fine, checked the plugin version - they are same.  Am I missing some configuration here wherein the orchestrator installed in another machine is not able to talk to vcenter server ?
