Mbralign via workflow with vCenter Orchestrator

Hi,

Would someone have thoughts to share about scheduling mbrscan and mbralign via vCo?

As we are using Netapp storage, I am aware of Netapp VSC 4 offering the possibility to move all unaligned VMs to a dedicated "unaligned" datastore to bypass the problem, but I would prefer to avoid this solution as it double up the number of datastore to manage.

As mbrscan and mbralign are cli executed via ssh sesion on the ESXi host, so how would it be possible to perform it via orchestrator? I believe it would be possible with plink but how and also it wouldn't be easy to manage the output?

Thanks for any thoughts,

Gilles

There was one available done by Eric Sarakaitis - but I see that he no longer has it available.

I know the link does not work - but it was possible.

Try contacting him directly..

In addition I succesfully managed to do this with PowerCLI - over 600 VM's.

Hi Maish,

Thanks for your quick reply.

I thought Netapp cmdlet couldn't interact with LUN formatted with VMFS, so it is why I didn't give it a try as we are not using NFS datastore.

When you say you did with Powershell, was it using the cmdlet Repair-NaVirtualDiskAlignement?

Thanks,

Gilles

No - I wrote a whole workflow (in PowerCLI) to re-align the VM's one at a time.

Using plink as you mentioned above.

Hi Maish,

Interesting, I was foccussed on vco but would you agree to share some part of your workflow, like how you use plink with powershell and most importantly how you manage the return of the command of mbrscan and mbralign to check if everything is OK? I would understand if you are not able to provide those information. No problem.

Thanks,

Gilles
