Accessing vSphere Web Client tags through vSphere API?

Is it possible to access vSphere Web Client tags on recent iterations of vSphere API?

Following KB states that they are not accessible, is this still valid with vCenter Server 5.5 U2?

It would be highly useful to have access on this tagging information from VCO/VRO.

Still not possible. Workaround is to use the powershell plugin to call the tag cmdlets there.
